E-News Update September 2007

Dear Water Members, 17th. Sept.07

Here’s another update on what’s happening at WaterWays Watch.

*Dont forget, AGM 07 is coming soon. Probably will be in the month of late Oct. or early Nov. 2007. Try and attend if you can.

*The month of August gave waterways watch an opportunity to participate in WaterFest over the weekend of 25/26th. A total of over 20 members participated in safety boat duties. A bit boring duty for some of us, but, an experience. We will do better next year. Thank you all who participated.

*Besides our hectic School Programs , corporate programs (IRAS), we even had a joint camp for MINDS. It was a two day one nite camp which we gave a presentation to about 70 participants followed by beach clean-up the next morning. This is the first “joint camp” and we hope to do more of such partnerships with outside parties. Thanks to members who helped out at the beach clean-up and ofcourse Annie who did the presentation and Sharon who was our nite-guard at WWS.

*In early Sept., we had four of our boats doing safety boat for the reality show “The Contender Asia” (to be shown on AXN in november). Photo attach shows some of our members during break-time. Interesting event for most of us who participated.

*On 15th. Sept. we had a joint event for International Coastal Clean-Up 07 with NTU, NUS High, CompassVale Sec., German School and ourselves. From 0730 to 1130hrs., we had over 200 people doing beach clean-up around five zones at the Kallang Basin area. The weather was great and it only started to drizzle after the event. We hope to hold more joint programs of such a nature as it does highlight to participants the need to keep our waterways clean and litter free.
Data collected from this event will be posted in the web-site of ICCS.

*In case some of you have not seen the Marina Barrage, attach is a photo of the model taken at PUB centre. An interesting barrage. We will try and arrange for a site- visit one day for all members. The barrage is scheduled to be fully operational by end of 2007.

*To share with all members, we now have joint bicycle patrols every first and third saturday of the month (Edward, Ved, Pat, Pen, Peck Khee, Tun Phong- please take note) and weekly sunday patrol with PUB Boat (they join us). Hence, it is important that we all turn-up for duty as scheduled please.

*Oh, for the first two weeks of Oct. Annie will be on vacation (well earned) and our weekly school activities taking a short break except for StakeHolders Project (Sharon and PeyShyuan).
Those able to help with this important project please contact them.

We say best wishes to Jimmy who is now in Manchester till end of dec. doing his exchange program (lucky Jimmy) and look forward toward Ben coming back for three weeks in early Oct.

*Next major event is the Youth Conference at Dunman High on 19th. Oct. 2007. Volunteers needed please. We have a booth and doing a short presentation to the youth that morning.

*Welcome new members Melissa Chua and Kevin Chung!

Thank you.
