Weekly Report 08 November 2017

Dear Friends,

It was quite an eventful week for WWS, with one NWCDC-Sponsored Assembly Talk with Yishun Primary School (300 pax), one CSR on Kayak, Foot, Bike and Pedal Boat with Infineon (83 pax total), one Pang Sua Pond Trail (NWCDC-sponsored) with Zhenghua Primary School (22 pax) and one Kayak Patrol with Teck Whye Secondary School (25 pax). We also had a recce of the beachfronts of Coney Island for an upcoming Beach Clean-Up. 7 of our Patrol Leaders attended a CPR-AED refresher course organised by the Singapore Heart Foundation (Project Heart 2017).  CEO attended Blue Plan 2018 session on Sat. During the week had discussion with Gone Adventuring on potential collaboration 2018.

We had our usual Sunday Patrol at Marina (Boat and Bike) and Sunday Patrol at Punggol (Bike). We also did a little sprucing up of our CIB and Biodiversity Pond Gardens.

We had 19 pax on patrol this week at Kallang and Punggol including 3 volunteers through Giving.SG. There were 15 persons engaged for Anti-Littering this week and we had at least 10 engaged for illegal fishing. No fines were issued for Littering during the weekend. No major litter hotspots were found, and the Marina area was generally clean. There was a MHA division Run on Friday along Kampung Bugis – post event cleanliness and arrangements seemed to be in order however there was one wooden banner left behind by EO (see photo). We removed it on Sunday.

More than 60% of the litter picked up/ observed during our patrols/ programmes over the week consisted of plastic waste. During the CSR, we also picked up 4 Red-Eared Sliders (Terrapins) caught in an abandoned fishing net. Unfortunately, all 4 were dead, probably starved/ choked to death as they were stuck for some time (see photos).
