Litter… Litter everywhere we look.
Dear Friends,
It is heartening to see our programmes picking up, with three CSR and one VIA programme conducted this week. Participants from each programme left fully satisfied and happy to have learnt more about Singapore’s water story and the impact that they can have on keeping Singapore clean and sustainable.
While there has been a decrease in the number of illegal anglers sighted, it is concerning to see that our parks and reservoirs are full of litter and cigarette butts. Jurong Lake Gardens was especially full of litter, with the amount of litter collected there being more than double of those collected at other patrol sites. The litter even got tangled with our boat’s propeller and affected our boat patrol. We need more effective measures and well positioned signages.
Sightings of many PMDs and PABs (often with pillion riders) and walkers without leashing their dogs. One was even seen going into our reservoir (our source of drinking water). Hot spots of littering and smoking have been shared with relevant agencies.
