Young or old, we all have a part to play for the environment.
Dear Friends,
This week saw several school programmes such as assembly talks and VIA programmes. This week was special for Waterways Watch – we held our very first organized clean-up event for the elderly funded by BNP Paribas under their Help2Help Foundation, named Golden Years Green Planet, with a group of retirees brought together by our member Cheng. Thank you Cheng! It was really heartening and I understand participants enjoyed themselves and found it very meaningful. More to come!! We also had our very first Booth for 2026, organised by SBF (Singapore business federation). It was very successful for WWS and we met many potential volunteers and corporates.
As for patrols this week, there was a visible decrease in the number of illegal anglers spotted. There were also several sightings of wildlife such as the Anastomus oscitans (asian openbill) and the Ardea purpurea (purple heron) around the Marina reservoir, and a baby Tragulus kanchil (lesser mouse-deer) at Chestnut Drive. There was no patrol at Lakeside this Sunday as there was a notice to switch off the power for the entire Jurong Lakeside Garden, however our members still gathered to have a New Year’s lunch as well as to carry out some boat maintenance.
Another pickleball session was conducted by Vincent, our volunteer coach, with members enjoying themselves and learning and improving on their pickleball skills. Members once again gave positive feedback and expressed their thanks to our coach.
