Trash everywhere!

Dear Friends,

The weather has been quite uncooperative this week, with the heavy rains causing us to have to tweak the flow of a few of our programmes.  Regardless, we are glad that participants still had the opportunity to go out to experience our activity and see for themselves the effect that pollution has on our reservoir. The rain has also brought down a lot of trash from upstream and a shocking amount of 528kg of litter was collected from our programmes this week (this excludes collection by our weekly Member Patrols which was also a lot – another 78kg).
We are pleased to see a return of school assembly talks this week and hope the interest and trend will continue. Waterways Watch view this as an important part of social education for all our young, even pre-schoolers.

This week, we sighted dead wildlife in our waters again. This time we sighted a dead terrapin and a dead fish in a plastic bag (see 8 May’s CSR programme photos). Additionally, an unknown pollutant spill was also spotted in our Marina Reservoir, which we reported to PUB. Besides the usual smokers and unruly, illegal PMDs and PABs, there were sightings as usual. The weather was extremely hot on days with no rain and we always remind participants to hydrate all the time.
