Environmental Debt
Dear Friends,
This week was not a clean week. Despite our fewer programmes due to the long weekend and right after the general elections; we picked up pretty much the record weight for both CSR and patrols combined. Our 6 CSR/VIA groups alone picked up 472kg of trash; that’s more than 2kg per person! Despite the tremendous amount of trash picked up by our environmental champions, there was still quite a lot of rubbish floating around. This week, we saw Marina Reservoir being covered with floating trash & cigarette butts in many places (see pictures below). Pang Sua, Punggol and Marina are not spared from the additional trash.
We also played host to 2 media outlets – 31 Production on Saturday with our President Joo Kek & Austrian broadcasting corporation, ORF with our CEO, Eugene, on Sunday. While they generally had good experience with us, they were visually treated first hand to the situation that is our reservoirs. Is Singapore really clean? Or is it clean because we have to hire cleaners to clean up after us? As developed as we are, we definitely still have a long way to go.
