Preparations & Celebrations!

Dear Friends,

It’s the start of the June school holidays. While schools take a break from VIA, we had a bunch of CSRs from companies joining us; and with a new initiative: Combining students to participate during their break! An excellent 2-in-1 opportunity that we had 2 such events this week. We thank the hosts and students for coming down to take care of our beloved environment together. Perhaps going forward, more corporates may want to take this initiative and branch out to sponsor and mentor schools doing VIA programmes with Waterways Watch Society.

It was also Hari Raya Haji on Saturday, which means we had no patrols, but our volunteers came in with full force on Sunday! We had an astounding 14 members on bicycles at Kallang! However, the holiday also meant we had many park users and the amount of rubbish we saw was once again, disappointing. We have to say that people are using bins as the bins are full, but it seemed that people are not equipped beyond that or can’t be bothered to find a new bin.

Finally, Waterways Watch also wants to congratulate 2 of our members who got married over the weekend. They first met here at WWS, 9 years ago and it was a heartfelt moment for both of them, and our members who have known them.  Better still, CEO Eugene Heng had the honor and privilege to do their solemnization at the Conrad Hotel.
