Ju…. Wrong?

Dear Friends,

Here at Waterways Watch Society, our work to save our waters and protect the environment is neverending. This week sees the start of our programmes ramping back up after last week’s short rest – A whooping 12 programmes in all. Many of these programmes also featured multiple activities within the same session or with multiple classes! If you have a large group, please feel free to contact us to arrange.

Meanwhile, this week’s bottom-ranked location is not Punggol or Pang Sua, but…… Jurong; or is it Ju-Wrong? It is an extremely popular park; but there is much to be done about the litter situation there. Our patrols saw celebratory balloons in the reservoir, bins overflowing with trash, illegal fishing and much more. When bins are left overflowing, people can’t be bothered to look for the next and will just throw their rubbish on the floor, and it will get blown to the reservoir. Do we bother to catch it back? As many times as we have engaged illegal fishing, we don’t see people blatantly throwing trash into the reservoir! The trash in the reservoir usually is blown in from land! Both land and water trash are interconnected. We must not forget one from the other! Perhaps like in hawkers, we can remove the bins from parks and let users be more responsible for their rubbish instead, like bringing them to a dedicated collection point……..!!
