A need for increased social responsibility.
Dear Friends,
We started 2026 with our regular weekly patrols by members even without many CSR or VIA programmes, with only three done this week. The amount of litter picked up however was very disappointing! Litter appears to have increased, at Pang Sua, Punggol, Lakeside and Kallang. We are very behind good social grace and evidently, many litter bugs are still around. With the Chinese New Year holidays round the corner, what next can we expect..? Hopefully the horses galloping in to usher the new year will not be dragging more litter!
In addition, we still see many illegal fishing mainly by young adults and students. Use of PMDs and PABs within Kallang Riverside Park and Kampong Bugis is a regular daily sighting and many with pillion riders seen speeding. Park users were also sighted walking their dogs unleashed and we have regular dog owners doing this in Kallang- at least three and sadly, they all appear to be foreigners. At the rate we are progressing in addressing proper compliance to our laws and guidelines, there appears to be not much hope for improvement as we are not really doing an effective job here!
One can only wonder, is this the new Singapore we all want? Turning a blind eye to such offences, non-confrontational (for fear of reprisals?) and encouraging disregard of our Singapore Laws! Wake Up Singapore! We need more enforcement of our rules and regulations if we really mean what we say!
Lastly for our pickleball courses, our participants found the clinic fun, engaging, and well-structured, with clear explanations of pickleball fundamentals such as paddle grip, footwork, basic strokes, rules, and terminology. They appreciated the patient coaching, detailed instruction, and willingness to answer questions and share practical tips.
Many felt the session was more thorough than typical introductory classes, and first-time or less active participants found the sport approachable and enjoyable. Overall, participants valued the friendly learning environment, enjoyed playing with fellow members, and expressed interest in joining future sessions. Once again, thank you Vincent, our member and coach.
