How can we better protect our environment?
Dear Friends,
With World Water Month happening in March, we are glad to be able to engage more corporations to spread awareness on the importance of caring for our environment and waterways. Schools were however a bit disappointing as we experienced quite a drop in bookings compared to previous years. We are also heartened to see many corporations coming back to us for another round of programmes with different participants, their support means a lot to the team at WWS.
Unfortunately, a lot more illegal anglers were spotted at our patrol sites, especially at Punggol. This raises the question of whether there are enough fishing zones in Punggol or if there are better measures that can be implemented to target illegal fishing. In addition to that, several fishing items were found irresponsibly thrown near the fishing zones in Marina Reservoir. Not only are these a danger to other users of the fishing zone, it also affects the environment and other water users. Fishing in designated approved zones by PUB is also recommended due to safety concerns. Recently we also sighted some running away from enforcement officers and fishing on Merdeka Bridge instead.
Weekend patrols and weekday patrols by members continue to be well supported – Punggol, Lakeside, Pang Sua and Marina.
