May the haze subside soon.

Dear Friends,

The haze continues to disrupt our programmes with future bookings coming in slow and current bookings affected with postponements. This week saw the continuance with a total of 3 programmes postponed. However, this has not deterred illegal fishing, with many still being sighted at Marina and Lakeside. It seems that even with our members engaging these illegal fishermen, most do not seem to show much care and would come back to fish again illegally.  Our concern is the age group of these fishermen, or rather fisherboys, as most of them are young teenagers.

In addition to affecting programmes, the haze has also affected our member patrols. Our Punggol site was supposed to have a kayak and bike patrol this Saturday. However, due to the spike in the haze PSI and PM2.5 levels, the Punggol patrols were cancelled entirely for the safety of our members. As one of our Punggol members was still willing to come and help out, he and our Deputy CEO, Jookek did housekeeping maintenance for our Punggol office instead. Similarly, the admin team at Waterways Watch Society had their site recce to Macritchie and Coney Island postponed due to the haze levels during the weekday as well. Thankfully, the Marina and Lakeside patrols continued on, though numbers were reduced compared to usual and the members who came for the Marina patrol on Saturday were requested to come back earlier due to the haze.
