Care for our Earth.

Dear Friends,

It was supposed to be the best week for WWS this week. We had a total of nine CSR programmes booked but due to the haze, we had three programmes postponed and one cancelled due to the corporate’s internal miscommunication. This was quite disappointing as our teams were all geared up and ready for a very active week. The week ended with only five CSR programmes delivered.

Member activities continued strong this week, with a total of 13 different types of patrols (Bike, Pedal Boat,Garden & Boat) and two boat training sessions conducted. Our Sunday Marina boat team also netted up an ocellate river stingray, which is an invasive species. The stingray was released back into the waters. Some interesting litter was picked up during this week’s patrol, such as a children’s T-shirt and a piece of concrete slab.

A total of nine groups of illegal fishermen were also spotted this week at Lakeside and Marina, with one even using live bait. Meanwhile, the illegal fishermen at Lakeside were all spread out in the same area, outside the fishing zone, which gives the idea of monkey see monkey do. We recommend having higher surveillance and enforcement for this illegal fishing hotspot. Trash was abundant in our reservoir and we would like to thank the cleaners who helped our members to clean up the litter trapped at the PUB fishing zone buoy line, which our bike patrol members had trouble reaching.
