Dear friends,
This week, we had a total of 4 school and 2 corporate programmes. We had a marvelous week with our first and successful Try-amazing Race with our sustainable partner Pratt & Whitney on Saturday. A total of 132 participants forming 22 teams participated in Kayak, Running and Cycling activities with many more supporters. 52 members of Waterways Watch Society assisted in supporting the event. We were blessed with great weather for the event and all went well. We sincerely thank PUB, Nparks and Gardens by the Bay for their support and approval. Everyone had a great time and we hope this will be an interesting template to sell to more corporates in the future. ( please see photos). We also did our second OCBC sponsored L.O.V.E. Punggol programme with 10 students and teacher from Bukit Panjang Government High School. We also had a NWCDC sponsored WWE: ASAP with Jiemin Primary School at Seletar for 38 pax. This week, we had 2 school assembly talks, one for Naval Base Primary School for 1,400 students sponsored by NWCDC and another with Christ Church Primary School for 89 students sponsored by our new partner Legend Shipping. We had one Corporate Bike program with Infineon for 36 pax and our own Kayak Training for Leader Course. We collected a total of 47.7KG of litter this week, where 60% were of plastic origin.
Our CEO met CCDC Management Staff to discuss potential partnership and sponsorship for 2019 and onwards. We also did wrap-up with CNA for their media program aired at 2200hrs on the 13th of October 2018. It was truly a great week for Waterways Watch Society.
On Sunday, we had 7 members doing duty on boat patrol and admin. Punggol team did two weekday boat patrol but no weekend patrol was conducted, while Kallang team did a boat patrol on Sunday.
There was a total of 8 fishing engagements, 4 sighting for fishing activities outside approved zone and 1 retrieval of long fishing net (released all fishes). There was no engagement on anti-littering as we only did boat patrol. There were still sightings of PMDs and PEBs that continues to be of great concern specially foot scooters who are often seen speeding and with pillion rider(s) without helmets. Litter still can be sighted and sunday patrol picked-up a lot of plastic bottles between Flyer to the Esplanade but so far no sightings of algae.
