BUILDING OWNERSHIP AND CELEBRATING MILESTONES
This Month, the society welcomed new volunteers, reinforcing the sense of ownership and responsibility for our waterways. We also celebrated the promotion of Boon Yeow to 1st skipper from 2nd. skipper after completing several rounds of boat training. Training and learning remained a strong focus this month The final two runs of first aid courses were completed successfully, with all 24 participants passing. A final course for 9 more will be done by Aug.2026. Kayaking activities included a one-star course at Marina Reservoir for 10 members and a closed-deck practice session with 15 participants. For Boat Drivers, we are planning a Boat Engine appreciation course sometime Sept. 2026. SAFEGUARDING OUR WATERS THROUGH ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT
Patrols across different locations highlighted both progress and challenges. At Marina Reservoir, several groups of illegal fishers were engaged, with PUB stepping in to handle two who refused compliance. The Pang Sua team collected fewer cans and bottles than usual, which may indicate the positive impact of the Recycle Right programme. At Kallang, members celebrated the birthday of a regular pedal boat leader while also conducting kayak rescue practice involving 40 members. Meanwhile, patrols at Jurong Lake Gardens engaged cyclists riding in restricted zones, and NParks was advised to deploy officers during weekends to improve compliance.

STRENGTHENING SKILLS AND INSPIRING STEWARDSHIP
Our VIA programmes with a primary school, tuition centre, and pre-school were well received, with participants finding the sessions engaging and meaningful. The CSR programmes also saw strong participation, with groups enthusiastically collecting litter and contributing to cleaner waterways. CSR and VIA programme participants also showed great enthusiasm, collecting significant amounts of litter and demonstrating the value of community service in environmental stewardship.

Addressing Environmental and Social Concerns
Several concerning incidents were observed during one of the weeks. An oil spill was reported near Sheares Bridge, with PUB taking follow-up action. Vandalism and damage were noted at multiple sites, including a broken lamp post in Punggol, a damaged convex mirror at Stadium Road, a defaced fishing sign, and an overflowing bin at Lakeside. Littering remained an issue, with dead pigeons and food waste spotted at Marina, and heavy litter left behind after an event near Bukit Panjang MRT. These sightings underscore the ongoing need for public responsibility and awareness.

Partnerships, Education, and Community Collaboration
Partnerships and outreach efforts added positive momentum to the month. The society expressed appreciation to Bedok Police Division for their support in granting access to waters for clean-up programmes and patrols. The Pang Sua team’s reduced collection of recyclables was seen as a hopeful sign of improved public behaviour. Patrol teams also engaged directly with cyclists, fishers, and members of the public to encourage compliance and responsible actions. These engagements highlight the importance of education, enforcement, and collaboration in fostering sustainable social behaviour.
