Who’s smoking what?

Dear Friends,

It was a short one week school holiday week and once again, we had more CSR programmes lined up, some companies even including their own children or partnering with schools and student centres to make a bigger impact! Our activities incorporate an element of fun so that everyone, young and old, have an enjoyable and meaningful time learning about the environment.

Sadly, we seem to be heading into a wet season (although good for our water resources). A few companies and the Pang Sua team had to reschedule their sessions with us due to the wet weather. A total of three corporate programmes had to be postponed at the last minute. On the bright side, our own members were more than happy to wait out the rain and set off safely using our new bicycles provided by our partner, Woh Hup! We are grateful for their continued support to WWS over these past years.

This week, our members noticed a slightly different trend from the usual illegal fishing though! Cigarettes and vapes. We saw an increase in cigarette-related trash and some concerning combinations with medication, vapes and syringes. Either way, they both contain harmful substances that will leak into the reservoirs! We hope that everyone (not only the authorities) can help discourage the use or at least the irresponsible disposal of these items to protect our environment and ensure safer water sources.
