STRONG NATIONAL DAY PARTICIPATION AND CONTINUED COMMITMENT
National Day week saw strong participation from members, with a large turnout joining the Marina patrol on the eve of National Day. It was encouraging to see members interacting and working together to keep Singapore clean and tidy. Our programmes and CSR activities continued to gain momentum, with participants finding them meaningful and fulfilling. Despite fluctuations in trash volumes across different reporting periods, littering remains a significant concern, particularly in upstream areas and recurring litter hotspots such as Pang Sua. Greater public education and outreach are still needed to strengthen social responsibility and encourage cleaner habits across the community.

PERSISTENT LITTER CHALLENGES ACROSS PATROL SITES
Patrol teams continued to remove substantial amounts of litter from Singapore’s waterways and surrounding areas. Large quantities of trash were collected from Kallang and Punggol despite the relatively dry weather, suggesting that much of the litter originated from nearby areas rather than being washed downstream. In subsequent weeks, a noticeable increase in overall trash collection was recorded, reflecting continued littering issues. The Pang Sua team reported one of its heaviest cleanup efforts, removing significant amounts of cans, glass bottles, plastic bags and household waste found near the Bukit Panjang viaduct and a nearby construction site. The volume of litter was so substantial that multiple rounds of disposal were required. So sad, why liddat Singapore??

EXPANDING CORPORATE AND EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH
Corporate and educational programmes continued throughout the period, contributing to greater public awareness and engagement. A lunchtime outreach booth was conducted at S&P Global in partnership with WWS, while several River Monster Junior programmes were delivered for preschool students. An assembly talk was also conducted to educate students on environmental responsibility. Although no school VIA activities took place during the National Day week, overall programme participation remained positive and encouraging.
We would also like to thank PUB for approving our member, Edward, with the authority to certify our pedal boats, further strengthening our operational capabilities and supporting future activities.

INTERESTING SIGHTINGS
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PUBLIC SPACE CONCERNS
Several notable sightings were reported by patrol teams. These included fallen trees, damaged signs and bicycles that were not properly parked. A mattress was discovered beneath Sir Arthur’s Bridge, raising concerns that it may have been used as temporary shelter.
Patrol members rescued a red-eared slider turtle that had a fishing hook lodged in its mouth and successfully removed the hook. Illegal fishing activity appeared to decline during the period, possibly due to increased security measures around National Day preparations. Illegal hawkers were also spotted, while several groups of smokers were engaged by members and subsequently complied after being approached.

PROMOTING RESPONSIBLE COMMUNITY BEHAVIOUR
Public engagement remained an important aspect of our operations. Members continued to interact with the public to promote responsible behaviour and environmental stewardship. Positive interactions among volunteers during National Day activities reinforced a strong sense of community and shared purpose.
Patrol members highlighted concerns regarding widespread littering, particularly the large number of discarded straws, cans, glass bottles and household waste found in public spaces. These observations reinforce the need for ongoing outreach, sharing and education efforts to encourage greater environmental responsibility and reduce littering across Singapore.
