More Events = More Littering?

Dear Friends,

With the school holidays going into full swing soon, there has been a significant rise in illegal fishing over the past two weeks. Most of these illegal fishers happen to be teenagers. One refused to comply when engaged and, on another occasion, one stood on the rocks and slipped into the water. We have shared all these sightings to PUB. Due to inclement weather on Sunday, our Lakeside patrol team had to cancel their patrol activity. Instead, they helped to clean up and maintain our Lakeside container office. On another note, Sunday was also the birthday of our regular Sunday Bike Leader, Michelle. Happy birthday and thank you for volunteering with us at Kallang and Lakeside almost every Sunday!

Happy Birthday to our Leader, Michelle!

Unfortunately, due to the haze, many of the CSR programmes scheduled for this week were postponed. We had 50% of our programmes postponed this week versus 40% of it postponed the previous week. This is not a happy trend for us especially since we invested a lot of time and effort, and cost when scheduling these programs. We had 4 online meetings with potential clients as well as a visit by students from Temasek Polytechnic who are currently working on a school project and an internal meeting with a volunteer to help us explore how WWS can make use of AI in our weekly report to speed up the preparation process.

WWS was invited by the Public Health Council to patrol the F1 areas such as Singapore River and Clarke Quay. The patrols were led by our Deputy CEO Low Joo Kek, which consisted of three night patrols to engage F1 attendees to be more aware about social grace and not litter. A total of 8 members did 17 tours and  were deployed over the three days. Some areas sighted had evidence of bad littering habits, as can be seen from the pictures below. On Saturday, due to a miscommunication with a client, the programme was postponed and the 11 facilitators who had already arrived at WWS converted to boat patrol instead of wasting their effort. Such is the dedication of our members – Cheers!! Luckily, we had a simultaneous coastal clean-up at Tanah Merah involving over 50 participants and 8 WWS facilitators headed by Deputy CEO Joo Kek.
