Season of Giving Back
Dear Friends,
Seasons Greetings to all of you from Waterways Watch Society!
Despite being the holiday season, we are very happy to have 6 companies coming down to participate in our environmental programmes and give back to the environment; unfortunately, still with a very ’respectable’ amount of rubbish cleared as well! Kudos to everyone – both participants and facilitators.
Our patrols also continued strong this weekend – and spent no small amount of time engaging the public about being responsible park and water users. We are glad that those we spoke to were compliant and hopefully they are now much more aware of how their actions can affect the livelihood of everyone else.
On the same, yet different, note – no less trash has been seen despite fewer volunteer participation. We see an increase in 2 specific areas – Below benjamin sheares bridge and Pang Sua pond. It cannot be solely the responsibility of any one agency to keep these areas clean. All of us – individuals and agencies have to come together and support each other to take action and minimise all of these. No expense should be spared, or it would simply be expenses elsewhere!
As the lyrics to one of our National Day songs, “Sail down the river that brings us life” – during this season of giving, let’s continue to give back to our waterways that give us life in a positive manner, and not by giving more problems and rubbish.
