Working together to do our part for the environment.
Dear Friends,
This week, Waterways Watch Society were honoured to have SPS Ms Goh Hanyan and senior members of PUB join us for a kayak and pedal boat waterways cleanup programme. It is truly when government bodies come down to experience for themselves the environmental situation that they will be able to make better and more informed choices. We truly value our partnership with PUB and we hope to continue working together with them. When management and bosses join, it is even better, as it reinforces commitment and serious interest!! Thank you!!
On another note, it was saddening to see the fishing zones littered with trash, especially around the Marina Reservoir. Our members even spotted a fishing line hanging from the Marina Fishing Zone 2 area into the waters. This could have been potentially dangerous for other users of the waters as they may not have noticed the fishing line until it is too late. Guess there is still more work to be done in educating and getting the fishing community to be more involved and responsible for their actions. Enforcement sometimes appears to be the only way to influence a proper change in social habits.
This week we had activities from preschoolers to primary schools (assembly talks), uniform organisations and corporates. A total of 7 programmes. As usual, members patrol had over 80 present at Marina, Lakeside and Punggol Office. There was also a members kayak patrol (at Marina) which always draws good participation.
